The President of Slovakia, Zuzana Chaputova, signed documents allowing nine Slovaks to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As reported by the Slovak mass media , in the period from February 24, 2022 to August 2, 2023, the Slovak president considered 35 applications from citizens to serve in the ranks of the Ukrainian army. 26 of them were refused permission, the president’s decision was positive for nine.
The reason for the refusal is not reported.
In accordance with the current legislation, Slovak citizens have the right to join the service in the armies of other countries only with the permission of the country’s president. Without such a permit, Slovaks face criminal liability.
Earlier this month, it became known that the Czech Republic has allowed 146 of its citizens to participate in the war in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia .
