Zelensky: Ukraine is Not Involved in the Crash of Prigozhin’s Plane



Ukraine has nothing to do with the plane crash of Wagner PMC founder Yevgeny Prigozhin. The corresponding statement on Thursday, August 24, was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference in Kyiv.

“We have nothing to do with this,” he said (quoted by Interfax-Ukraine).

“Everyone understands who is involved,” Zelensky added (quote from Strana.ua). He did not specify who exactly he was talking about.

Zelensky added that “when Ukraine spoke and addressed the countries of the world regarding aircraft, we didn’t mean it.”

“We had something completely different in mind and we wanted support, although this will certainly help in some sense of the word,” the president said.

Business jet Embraer, flying on the route Moscow – St. Petersburg, crashed in the Tver region on the evening of August 23. There were 10 people on board , including three crew members. As a result of the crash, they all died. According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, among the passengers of the business jet were Prigozhin himself and the commander of a private military company, Dmitry Utkin. Upon the fact of the crash, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article on violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport” (Article 263 of the Criminal Code).

On the morning of August 24, the bodies of those killed in the crash of a business jet were brought to the Tver Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination, an MSK1 source said . Fontanka writes that the bodies were badly damaged and “cannot be visually identified.” According to the portal 161.ru, a genetic examination will be carried out.
