WestJet will reconnect three cities in eastern Canada with key European destinations next summer, as well as starting a new service between Edinburgh and Halifax.
The airline will operate flights from both Dublin and Edinburgh to Toronto and Halifax from next summer with a new three-times-weekly Edinburgh-Halifax route starting on June 21.
Flights will depart Edinburgh at 09.30 and arrive on the east coast of Canada at 11.38. Return flights leave Halifax at 22.40 arriving in Scotland at 08.04.
London will also be connected to St. John’s in Newfoundland from Gatwick airport.
WestJet also announced a new four-times weekly service from Calgary to Reykjavik (Keflavik) which will start in May. It will be the only airline providing direct connectivity to Iceland from the western Canadian city.
Other European cities will see an increase in frequency on routes to the airline’s western base in Calgary with flights to Edinburgh, Barcelona and Rome increasing by one per week. Rome will now be served six times a week, and Edinburgh and Barcelona four times a week.
John Weatherill, WestJet group executive vice-president and chief commercial officer said: “Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to affordably connecting Canadians from coast-to-coast to some of the world’s most popular destinations.”
In September WestJet announced it was expanding its codeshare with Air France and converting its summer route between Paris and Calgary into a year-round service.
